Whenever we strongly believe in something we take a stand against anything that is contrary to that of our belief. Not only do people know we believe strongly in it, but our actions also back up our statements. We end up living what we believe. The “Walking the talk” is activated in our lives.
In Matthew 7:16-17 we read this, “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.”
The statement that “People want a Savior but not a Lord” is so true. It is so common to see people who are Christians, and yet they don’t have the actions to back up what they so call believe. They don’t have any fruit of the Lord in their lives. They want the salvation- their ticket to heaven, but they do not want their lives changed. They want the ultimate prize, but don’t want their lives affected by their beliefs. Therefore, the saying that people want a Savior and not a Lord is very true.
It is so easy to say, “Yes, I believe in Christ,” but some individuals are not “living” it. For us to live the life Christ has intended for us, we need to live out His instructions in the Bible. To surround ourselves with other people who are striving to live their lives according to God’s way. We are never going to have the perfect life- the perfect answer for anything or even the perfect action come forth from us. We are a people who need the Lord’s help every day for every situation. So, based on that, do not feel you have to live in perfection to “walk the talk” because that is impossible. There are no perfect people. There just has be some sort of proof Christ is in our lives.
One way to look at it would be this, ask yourself these very important questions- “Is the way I’m living reflecting Christ and His word?” “Do people look at me and think, “They say they are a Christian, but their actions sure do not reflect that.” Those are some tough questions to ask ourselves but needed. First and foremost, it keeps us humble in that of ourselves and keeps our focus on Christ. God’s love for us has enough forgiveness and patience for each person. He knows that we are human and not perfect. However instead of letting that be our crutch, we need to strive for excellence- not perfection, but excellence.
We are here on this earth to win souls for God’s kingdom, and many are watching us to see if what we say is what we live. Start today by not striving for perfection, but for better than yesterday. God will help you with every situation you could ever have. Believe in Him, live for Him, and then you will be happier and blessed and so will the people around you. They will see Christ reflected through you and will want what you have!
