In One Day

Isn’t it difficult to wait on God’s timing? To have been given a promise and have to wait so long for it to be fulfilled. At particular times it’s even more difficult because situations seem to be coming against our promise, and us. We tend to look around and say to ourselves, “Well, maybe I heard wrong. Maybe it was misunderstood in my own mind.”

Those times in life definitely require patience, trust, and faith. To know that you know, and no matter what is going on around you, you won’t give up, is what is required.

In I Kings chapter 1 we read how Solomon who was King David’s son was promised his father’s throne one day. This promise was spoken by King David himself and others knew of this promise. King David’s other son though, Adonijah, did not approve of his father’s decision, and decided to appoint himself on the throne. King David, at this time in his life, was ill and shut up in his house.

So he most likely was not made aware of this by the people. However, Solomon’s mother heard of this and went to the king, telling him what was happening. She then asked the king if indeed her son Solomon was meant to be the next king and King David said, “Yes.” King David said to her, “I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place” (I Kings 1:30).

From that very day, King David appointed his son Solomon on the throne and the promise was fulfilled despite Adonijah’s attempts to interrupt the promise.

In Romans 4:21 God reminds of this by saying, “being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” When God promises us something we cannot waiver in our belief. Regardless of what is going on around us, we must take God at His word and fully receive His promise.

Just as Solomon’s life was changed in one day concerning the promise of his father, so can ours be changed. In one day, the promise that was spoken to us by God will be fulfilled and our lives will be forever changed because of the promise.

What About You?

  1. Have you grown weary in your waiting?

  2. What can you see in your waiting that God is teaching you?

Gift of Love

I heard a line in a Christmas movie once where a woman told a man that the first gift ever given was a child- meaning Jesus being born. It was a great movie, and that line is one that I will never for
