Good News

It seems every time we turn on the tv all we hear and see is bad news. There is so much happening that the news is not enjoyable to watch. Some news stations though will have a small segment of good news, but it seems always overshadowed by the bad.

Good news is vital to each one of us- especially for Christians. I remember as a teenager at church on Sunday nights, we would have a time of testimony. A time set apart for people to stand up and tell others what the Lord had done for them, or how a prayer request was answered. It was really encouraging to see what God was doing, and enforced even more that God was alive and moving in people’s lives. It also opened the door for people to get to know more about each other and their lives.

Today a lot of churches have fallen away from meeting on Sunday nights which makes it harder to hear the “good news” of what God is doing in peoples lives. Testifying of God and His goodness is about bringing honor and glory to Him, and it impacts others as well.

Joshua 2:8-11 shows us how much testifying really impacts people. “I know that the Lord has given you the land and the terror of you has fallen on us and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted away before you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of The Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And when we heard it our hearts melted, and no courage remained in any man any longer because of you; for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.”

This passage was spoken by Rahab to the two spies who were sent by Joshua to view the land of Jericho. Rahab was a prostitute, but later her and her family were saved from the fall of Jericho because of her helping them. Rahab said in the passage how the good news was known all over of what God had done for his people. It had melted hearts and brought the fear of the Lord to them including Rahab which is why she chose to help.

Isaiah 63:7 says this, “I shall make mention of the loving kindness of the Lord, the praises of the Lord according to all that the Lord has granted us and the great goodness toward the house of Israel which he has granted them according to His compassion and according to the multitude of His loving kindness.”

This verse says “I shall” make mention of the loving kindness of the Lord. God is telling us to tell everyone we can of all he has done for us. So many people are searching to understand if God is real and if He is who He says He is. Think of all the great things God has done and use those things to show God’s goodness to others. Tell others of what marvelous things He has delivered into your life because that truth will speak volumes to others.

Rahab was involved in a sinful lifestyle; however, she was not beyond reaching. Once she heard of the testimony of God she changed her life. Just like Rahab, people are hungry for good news and news that God is working. So, tell others of what He has done for you and your family. Perhaps your good news will be the news that will transform another person’s life and they will come to know the Lord for themselves!

Gift of Love

I heard a line in a Christmas movie once where a woman told a man that the first gift ever given was a child- meaning Jesus being born. It was a great movie, and that line is one that I will never for
