Dream Big

A lot of times people will ask one another, “What’s your dream in life?” Some people have a list they can quickly rattle off and some do not know. Some say, “It’s silly to dream because dreams do not come true.” Others will say, “Keep dreaming, you can be whatever you set out to be if you really want it.”

I believe all of us have dreams of what we want for our lives. We perhaps have had the dream for ourselves since we were very young. A lot of times we look at our lives when we’re older and recall those once-important dreams and wonder what happened. Dreams that seem to be replaced by the everyday reality of our lives – marriage, children, careers, etc. Sometimes we can also limit God and believe that just getting by in life is enough. We believe our lives are fine without dreams being fulfilled. I love to ask the question, “What is it you would do with your time if you never had to worry about money?” When it is put that way, many people tend to see their dreams a little clearer.

In Genesis 37:19 we read this, “Here comes the dreamer!” they said to each other.” Joseph’s brothers were saying this to each other about him and some dreams he had regarding his family and himself. His brothers were angry about the meaning of those dreams, which even more fueled the jealousy they had towards him who was considered their father’s favorite.

The dreams he had were of his family bowing down to him and ruling over them. I suppose dreams like that might make one confused and perhaps even angry, especially if that person already didn’t like the other one. Even though Joseph’s brothers didn’t believe him, much less like or respect him, he didn’t give up on the dream and its meaning. I don’t believe he was gloating all the time about it, but imagine he took it seriously considering he knew they were of God. He knew God had given insight to his future and eventually, those dreams were fulfilled, and people around him, including his family, knew his dreams were in fact true and from God.

Think of yourself, what dreams has God given you? What has God planted inside of you that you just can’t let go of? Perhaps others around you are jealous, do not believe you and maybe just don’t like you. Are you going to give up? There will always be doubters and opposers in our lives, especially against our dreams. Luke 10:11 says, “Even the dust of your town we wipe from our feet as a warning to you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God has come near.”

We’re told in advance there will be people who will reject us and what we’re saying, but we’re to shake it off. Not everyone will understand or believe us, but it’s truly all right. God puts in us dreams, big dreams. Dreams He will bring to pass, and all we need to do is, by faith accept them. We may not know how or when it will all come to pass, but if God says it we can be assured that it will be.

We must also get out of our comfort zones and take risks. Take chances on faith and see God show up and show off in our lives! If we’re never ready to step out in faith how will God get anything done? If you have a dream or passion that you know God has placed inside of you hang onto it. No matter what difficult things pop up along the way, don’t give up. Even though God gives dreams, remember we still have to be prepared before it’s fulfilled.

By faith accept whatever God has placed inside of you and eventually you’ll see it all come together. When it is said, “Here comes the dreamer,” rejoice! Rejoice because you know it’s God’s dream inside of you, and all will see it come to pass. Remember Luke 1:37 states, “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Nothing, no matter how large or crazy sounding it is, nothing is too hard for your God. The harder it seems to others is what I believe God loves. He loves those dreams that no one can truly believe, because when He makes them a reality that is when He is glorified.

Hang on to your God-given dreams no matter what anyone says, and watch what God does for you!

What About You?

  1. What is something you feel you are made to do in life?

  2. How can you start today in fulfilling that dream?
