Believing of Love

Have you ever been on your way somewhere and had something happen to slow you down? Something unexpected, and it cost you time? Times like that are incredibly frustrating because you don't want or, in some cases, can't afford to be late.

In Mark 5:21-43, we read about a Synagogue official Jairus and whose daughter needed healing. Jairus came to Jesus, asking Him to come and lay his hands on his daughter because she would die, and he agreed. As they were making their way to Jairus' house, a woman touched Jesus' clothes and was healed from her affliction. Jesus, knowing power had been released from him, stopped and asked who it was that touched him. The story goes on that this woman admitted it was her. She and Jesus spent some time talking about it. As Jesus was still talking to her, a man came out from Jairus' house and said they didn't need to trouble the teacher anymore for the little girl had died. Jesus then overhearing; this tells Jairus "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe." From that point on, He only allowed Jairus, Peter, James, and John to go into Jairus' house. As they went in, the Bible says that people were making a commotion by their wailing, and Jesus looked at them and said, "Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died but is asleep," and they then started laughing at him. At that point, Jesus made everyone leave except Jairus, his wife, Peter, James, and John. When Jesus went into where the girl was, He took her hand in His and said, "Talitha Kum." Which means "Little girl, I say to you, arise!" The Bible says that she immediately rose up, started to walk, and those around her were astounded. Jesus told them not to tell anyone and to give the girl something to eat, and He then left.

This story represents to us not only the power of God but also the love of God. The love that Jesus showed that day was incredible. It is also a great demonstration of His love for Jairus when He looked at him and told him not to be afraid anymore but to believe. Jesus knew what was going through his mind, for he had to have been devastated. Jesus also knew the state of him when he came to Him first, asking for help, and then for that to happen. Before doing anything else, Jesus reassures Jairus that all was well and that all he had to do was believe. For Jairus, it had been a horrible day up to that point. Here is his daughter on her death bed, and trying to save her, he goes to Jesus for help, and Jesus agrees. I'm sure Jairus was relieved, and they were most likely traveling quickly, only to get then interrupted by someone else who needed healing and got it. At that point, Jairus could have been thinking, "We have to go, Jesus, come on, or my daughter is going to die," and yet he doesn't say that. Then he gets the news that she has already died- at that point, he probably thought, "We're too late." Then Jesus in His love tells him what he did, and later comes in restoring order and brings life back to life Jairus' little girl- wow, what a day!

So, at those times when you've been asking and waiting for something, and there seems to come up something that might in the natural seem to slow up your miracle, don't worry. Know that God is aware of everything you need, and you need not be afraid of anything. Trust in your Lord and Savior, knowing that although He may seem slow, He is never late, and He will show up and show off.

All that is required of you and me is that we believe in Him. Believe in the love that He has for all of us- big and small.
